Desire is the driving force of story. Exploring what our characters want is the first step in building dramatic tension that compels readers to turn the page. Whether the desire is concrete--like a new lover or better job, or abstract--like redemption or revenge, the act of wanting something or someone inspires decisions and provokes action.
